What the work involves.
Laminate gives you the look of hardwood at a fraction of the cost, with a wear layer that stands up to kids, pets and daily traffic better than many real-wood finishes. The planks click together over an underlayment as a floating floor, so the surface beneath must be flat, dry and clean — that is where most of the installation effort goes. Then it’s about the details: expansion gaps at the walls, tight seams, straight runs across long rooms, and clean transitions at doorways, tile and stairs.
Modern laminates include water-resistant options suitable for kitchens and finished basements, though for wet bathrooms and laundry rooms we usually recommend luxury vinyl plank instead. We’ll tell you which product fits each room, and we install laminate you’ve purchased as well as flooring we source.

Laminate in Utah’s dry climate
Laminate is one of the more stable floors for Northern Utah because it moves less than solid wood when indoor humidity drops in winter. It still needs to acclimate in the home before installation, and it needs room to expand at the edges — gaps hidden under the baseboards. Over a basement slab, a vapor barrier is essential.
Laminate is a popular upgrade from builder-grade carpet in newer Herriman, Lehi, South Jordan and Layton homes, and a practical replacement for worn floors in older Salt Lake City, Bountiful, Ogden and Provo houses where subfloors need leveling first.

Laminate or luxury vinyl plank — which should I choose?
Laminate has a harder, more scratch-resistant surface and a more realistic wood look; luxury vinyl plank is fully waterproof and quieter underfoot. Laminate for living areas and bedrooms, LVP for bathrooms, laundry and wet basements is a common split.
Can laminate go in a basement?
Yes, over a dry slab with a vapor barrier and, ideally, a water-resistant laminate product. If the slab shows moisture, we’ll recommend LVP instead.
Do you remove the carpet first?
Yes. Carpet, pad and tack strips come out, the subfloor is cleaned and leveled, and staples are pulled before the underlayment goes down.
Can you do laminate on stairs?
Yes. Stairs use matching stair-nose pieces and take extra time, so tell us if they are part of the project.
How soon can we walk on it?
Immediately — laminate is a floating floor with no glue or nails. Furniture can go back the same day.
