01 Working in Woods Cross

What we know about Woods Cross.

With almost no vacant land left, Woods Cross is a city of existing homes rather than new subdivisions. Most houses went up in two waves — the late 1990s through 2007, and 2010 to 2015 — on generous lots: the R-1 zone minimum is 14,500 square feet and the average is closer to 17,500. That means bigger lawns to water, longer fence runs and more concrete than a typical Wasatch Front lot.

Two local conditions come up on almost every exterior job. The first is groundwater: parts of Woods Cross sit on a shallow water table, which changes how we handle drainage, concrete bases and anything below grade. The second is water supply: the city requires pressurized secondary water on residential development, delivered by Weber Basin and Bountiful Irrigation, so sprinkler systems here are secondary-water systems with filters and a mid-April to mid-October season.

Inside, the 1990s–2000s housing stock is reaching the age where bathrooms, flooring and paint get their first real update, and basements finished years ago get reworked. We do all of that as one contractor.

Water
Culinary water from city wells; secondary from Weber Basin and Bountiful Irrigation, charged around April 15 and shut off around October 15. A 10 a.m.–6 p.m. watering ban applied in the 2026 emergency.
Rebates
Woods Cross is in Weber Basin’s Landscape Lawn Exchange tier ($2.50 per sq ft in 2026). Artificial turf is not eligible; water-wise planting is.

Building Services, 1555 S 800 W (801-292-4421). Permits are required for basement finishes and decks; fences up to 6 ft, flooring, flat concrete, retaining walls under 4 ft and sheds under 200 sq ft are exempt.
Terrain
Flat valley floor at 4,249 ft; shallow groundwater in places; snow season roughly mid-November to mid-March; refinery and industrial corridor along the west side.

04 Questions

Woods Cross questions.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Woods Cross?

Not for fences up to 6 feet under the city’s Title 12 rules. Taller fences and anything in a front setback should be checked with Building Services first — we do that for you.

Is artificial turf eligible for the lawn rebate here?

No. Weber Basin’s Landscape Lawn Exchange pays for converting lawn to water-wise planting, not turf. Turf still cuts your outdoor water use; it just doesn’t earn the rebate.

Can you handle drainage issues from groundwater?

Yes. Grading, drainage and the base under concrete are planned around where the water table sits on your lot.
