01 About this service

What the work involves.

A fence project starts with three questions: how long is the run, how tall does it need to be, and what material do you want. From there it’s about the details that make a fence last — posts set below frost depth in concrete, straight lines and consistent post spacing, gates hung so they still swing true after a few winters, and old fencing removed and hauled away before the new one goes in.

Wood privacy fences give the most flexibility in height and style and can be stained to match the house. Vinyl costs more up front but never needs paint or stain and shrugs off Utah sun and wind when properly reinforced. Chain link is the practical choice for dog runs, side yards and large properties where budget and visibility matter more than privacy. We’ll walk through the trade-offs for your yard.

Typical fence installation projects

  • Wood and cedar privacy fences
  • Vinyl privacy and picket fences
  • Chain-link fences for yards, dog runs and lots
  • Gates — walk gates, double gates and drive gates
  • Old fence removal and replacement
  • Fence repair — leaning posts, broken panels, storm damage
  • Fencing for new-build backyards
  • Fence lines cleared of trees and roots

Fence rules in Salt Lake City and Northern Utah

Most Utah cities limit fence height — Salt Lake City, for example, allows up to 4 feet in a front yard and 6 feet along side and rear lines, with lower limits near corners so drivers can see. Many cities also require a permit for a new fence, and master-planned communities in West Jordan, South Jordan, Lehi and Herriman often add HOA approval on top. We confirm your city’s current rules before we build so the fence you get is one you can keep.

Wind and sun are the other Utah factors. Canyon winds along the Wasatch Front are hard on tall vinyl fences unless the posts and rails are reinforced, and high-altitude UV fades cheap materials quickly. Post depth matters for winter frost heave. These are the details that separate a fence that looks good in year one from one that still does in year ten.

02 Questions

Fence Installation questions.

Wood, vinyl or chain link — which should I choose?

Wood for style and value, vinyl for zero maintenance, chain link for budget and visibility. It depends on what the fence is for — privacy, pets, kids, property line — and we’ll give you an honest comparison for your yard.

How tall can my fence be?

It depends on your city. Salt Lake City allows 4 feet in front yards and 6 feet on side and rear lines, with corner sight-line limits; other Northern Utah cities are similar but not identical. We check the rules for your address.

Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a fence?

Many cities require a fence permit, and HOA communities usually require design approval. We’ll tell you what applies and build to it.

Will you remove my old fence?

Yes. Tearing out the old fence and hauling it away is part of a replacement project.

Do you repair fences or only install new ones?

Both. Leaning posts, broken panels, sagging gates and storm damage can often be repaired rather than replaced.

Where do you install fences?

Salt Lake City and across Northern Utah — Ogden, Layton, Woods Cross, Bountiful, West Valley City, West Jordan, Sandy, South Jordan, Herriman, Lehi, Orem, Provo, Park City and Tooele.
