01 Working in Pleasant Grove

What we know about Pleasant Grove.

Nearly half of Pleasant Grove’s homes were built since 2000, mostly on the west side and the bench, while the old grid around Main Street — the historic Manila, Grove Creek and Battle Creek neighborhoods — dates back a century. The 1990s–2000s houses are now at first-update age: bathrooms, flooring, paint and the basements that were never finished. Bench lots add slope, drainage, larger yards and, in the foothills, defensible-space landscaping near the canyons that have burned.

The city runs both culinary and pressurized irrigation. PI fills from mid-April and residents are asked not to run sprinklers before May 1; the system is drained in early October, and billing is moving from a flat rate to base-plus-volume as meters go in. Sprinkler systems here are secondary-water systems — filtered, zoned for a short season, and worth making efficient before the volume charges arrive.

Pleasant Grove is easy on fences: none under 6 feet needs a building permit, and up to 10 feet is allowed on a side yard where there’s a grade difference. New and replacement fences do go through a no-fee zoning check. Accessory apartments are allowed in single-family homes with a simple registration and owner-occupancy affidavit, which makes basement apartments a common finish here.

04 Questions

Pleasant Grove questions.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Pleasant Grove?

A no-fee zoning check for any new or replacement fence, and a building permit only if it’s over 6 ft. We take care of both.

When can I turn on my sprinklers?

PI starts filling around April 15, but the city asks residents to wait until May 1. We set controllers to the schedule and winterize after the early-October drain.

Can I finish my basement as an apartment?

Yes. Pleasant Grove allows accessory apartments in single-family homes with a registration and owner-occupancy affidavit, plus a building permit for the finish. We handle the build and the paperwork with you.
