What the work involves.
Some of the most satisfying projects are the ones that don’t require tearing a house apart: replacing hollow doors and dated trim, swapping light fixtures and hardware, refinishing or replacing floors in the rooms you use most, painting throughout, updating a vanity, or finishing the punch list a previous owner left behind. Grouped into one visit, updates like these change how a home feels for a fraction of a remodel’s disruption.
We also help homeowners decide between a refresh and a remodel. If the layout works and the bones are sound, updates make sense. If a room fights you every day — a cramped bathroom, a kitchen with no counter space — a remodel may be the better investment. We’ll give you an honest read either way.
Typical home renovations & updates projects
- Interior doors, trim, baseboards and casing
- Light fixtures, faucets and hardware
- Flooring in one room or several
- Interior painting and wall repair
- Vanity, countertop and mirror updates
- Closet and storage improvements
- Pre-sale and move-in updates
- Punch lists and unfinished projects
Updating homes in Northern Utah
Salt Lake City’s older neighborhoods and the post-war homes of Bountiful, Ogden, Orem and Provo are full of houses with good layouts and dated finishes — the ideal candidates for updates rather than remodels. Newer homes in Herriman, Lehi, South Jordan and Layton often need the builder-grade doors, trim, fixtures and carpet replaced with something better a few years in.
Most cosmetic updates don’t require permits in Utah cities. If your project touches plumbing, electrical or structure, we’ll flag it. Homeowners in condos and HOA communities should check their rules on work hours and approvals; we’re used to working within them.

Home Renovations & Updates questions.
Is my project too small?
No. Replacing a few doors, refreshing one room, or finishing a punch list are all projects we take on. Call or text with the list and we’ll tell you how we’d approach it.
Can updates be done in stages?
Yes. Many homeowners spread updates across a few visits — floors and paint first, doors and fixtures later — to fit their budget and schedule.
Do you do pre-sale updates?
Yes. Paint, flooring, fixtures and trim are the updates that make the biggest difference before listing a home, and they can usually be scheduled on a tight timeline.
How do I know whether to update or remodel?
If the layout works and only the finishes are dated, update. If the room itself doesn’t function, remodel. Send us photos and we’ll give you an honest opinion at no charge.
