01 Working in Ogden

What we know about Ogden.

Ogden’s median home was built in 1961, and the city’s best-known neighborhoods are its oldest: the Jefferson Avenue and Eccles Avenue historic districts with their Victorians and Prairie-style houses, and the Central Bench district of 1880s–1950s bungalows between 20th and 30th Streets. East Bench and Shadow Valley run newer; West Ogden and the areas near the rivers are flatter and more mixed. Homes of this age come with plaster walls, original bathrooms, layered flooring, basements finished decades ago and plumbing that is often the first thing we replace when a wall opens.

Yards here are on older lots with mature trees — and Ogden is specific about them. Park-strip trees are city property; pruning, removal or planting requires the Urban Forester’s approval, and any right-of-way excavation deeper than 12 inches requires a licensed, city-bonded contractor. Trees inside your lot line are yours. Everything east of Harrison Boulevard and the river corridors sit in the city’s fire-hazard zone, which favors defensible-space landscaping on the bench.

Ogden City’s water utility supplies culinary water; Pineview Water Systems runs pressurized secondary irrigation across much of the greater Ogden area from mid-April to mid-October. Ogden also joined the Weber Basin Flip Your Strip program in 2022 — residents get $2.50 per square foot for park-strip conversions, with the city matching part of it — which makes water-wise front yards an easy call on the older, thirsty lawns here.

Rebates
Flip Your Strip in Ogden pays $2.50 per sq ft (Weber Basin plus a city match) through Utah Water Savers, and Ogden extended eligibility beyond district customers.

Trees & terrain
Park-strip trees need Urban Forester approval (801-629-8284). Elevation 4,341 ft; Ogden and Weber Rivers cross the city; fire-hazard zone east of Harrison Blvd and along the river corridors.

04 Questions

Ogden questions.

Do you work in Ogden’s historic districts?

Yes. Interior remodeling, floors, basements and paint don’t involve historic review. Some exterior changes on historic blocks do — we’ll tell you what applies before we start.

Can you remove the tree in my park strip?

Only with the Urban Forester’s approval — park-strip trees belong to Ogden City. Trees inside your property line are yours, and we handle those directly.

Do fences need a permit in Ogden?

Yes, a no-cost permit. Heights are 4 ft in front yards and 7 ft on side and rear lines, and East Central prohibits chain link in front yards.

Do you serve the rest of Weber County?

Yes — South Ogden, North Ogden, Roy, Riverdale, Harrisville and West Haven, plus Layton and Davis County to the south.
