Artificial Turf Installation in Salt Lake City & Northern Utah
Green all year, no watering.
EKN installs artificial turf for homes across the Wasatch Front — front lawns, side yards, backyards, pet areas and putting greens. Every install starts with an excavated, compacted and draining base, because that is what keeps turf flat and clean through Utah’s freeze-thaw winters. Free estimates.

What the work involves.
Artificial turf stays green without mowing, watering or fertilizing, which is why it has become a common choice for side yards, dog runs and play areas in a dry climate. A proper installation removes the existing lawn or soil, builds a compacted crushed-rock base, adds drainage where needed, then stretches, seams and secures the turf before adding infill.
The turf product matters — pile height, blade shape, backing and infill all affect how it looks and how it handles pets and heat — but the base is what determines whether it still looks right in five years. Shortcuts there show up as ripples, low spots and puddles.

Artificial turf and Utah winters
Turf in Northern Utah has to survive snow, freeze-thaw cycles, strong high-altitude sun and hot summers. A deep, well-compacted base with proper drainage keeps snowmelt from pooling and prevents heaving as the ground freezes and thaws. Turf products with UV-stable fibers hold their color much longer at this elevation.
One honest note: unlike water-wise planting, artificial turf is generally not covered by the Wasatch Front lawn-replacement rebates. It still eliminates lawn watering entirely, which is often the reason homeowners choose it for areas that are hard to keep alive.

Artificial Turf Installation questions.
Does artificial turf work with snow?
Yes. Snow sits on turf the same way it sits on a lawn and melts through the perforated backing and base. Avoid metal shovels and salt on the surface; a plastic shovel or broom is fine.
Is it safe for dogs?
Pet-rated turf with a draining base and the right infill handles dogs well. It rinses clean, and antimicrobial infills help with odor. Tell us it’s for pets so we plan the drainage and product for it.
Does turf get hot in summer?
It runs warmer than natural grass in direct sun. Lighter colors, certain infills and a quick rinse with a hose bring the temperature down, and shaded areas stay comfortable.
Can you install turf over my existing lawn?
No — the lawn and a few inches of soil come out first so the compacted base can be built. Installing over grass leads to sinking and an uneven surface.
